The Heriot-Watt Jazz Band has just returned from a trip around the north of Scotland.
It left us with ambitions to try new and challenging music.
The band is based around musicians from Heriot-Watt with occasional external guest players, playing jazz from traditional 1920's and be-bop, to funk and contemporary pieces written and/or arranged by the band members.
The week-long trip was their first touring opportunity and included a gig in the salmon Bothy in Portsoy, arranged through Deveron Music, and another in the Blue Lamp in Aberdeen (Jazz Bar) which was part of the Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF).
Band leader Fraser Sharp said the trip had been enjoyable and successful. “We really felt that these were some of the best sets that we've played. We were relaxed as a group, we enjoyed ourselves and we had a tremendous amount of support from the audiences.
“It was a great experience to play as part of a festival and it left us with ambitions to try new and challenging music and play in other festivals around Scotland.”
You can hear the band's performance on their Facebook page.
