The Edinburgh Super-Resolution Imaging Consortium (ESRIC) has completed another hugely successful summer school, attracting 36 delegates from 16 different countries.
The ESRIC is an open access advanced imaging facility, specialising in super-resolution with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and teaching. The facility was formed through a partnership between the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering (IB3) at Heriot-Watt University and the MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM) at The University of Edinburgh.
Our industry partnerships allow delegates to trial new, state-of-the-art equipment using their own samples, while participating in sessions that cover all of the available super-resolution imaging systems.
The weeklong event was aimed at delegates from PhD students up to professors who want to learn more about the techniques, how best to apply them to their research question and to meet fellow scientists in the super-resolution community to exchange knowledge and ideas.
The course includes a range of informal talks from world-renowned super-resolution professionals, paired with intensive technology workshops designed to allow participants to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained and to quiz the application specialists about performing super-resolution microscopy.
Professor Rory Duncan is Head of the Institute for Biological Chemistry, Biophysics & Bioengineering at Heriot-Watt University and a director of ESRIC. He said: “Our summer school is now completed its fourth year and is a sell-out event attracting researchers from across the globe. The 2017 event was co-organised by the Royal Microscopical Society and is supported by a three-year BBSRC Stars grant. The ESRIC super-resolution summer school will return in 2018. Please contact manager@esric.org for more information.
