Heriot-Watt's Scottish summer graduations reached their conclusion today. Around two thousand of a total of three and a half thousand graduands were able to attend graduation ceremonies in Galashiels and at the University's Edinburgh Campus, along with family and friends.
Honorary degrees were awarded to Patrick Grant, Dato' Yeoh Seok Kian, Professor Onno Johan Boxma, Professor Alex Balfour, Dr William Lumsden and Professor Anne Neville.
We are delighted that the University presented an honorary degree to Professor Neville, Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) Chair in Emerging Technologies and Professor of Tribology and Surface Engineering at the University of Leeds, in the same week as International Women in Engineeering Day. This focuses attention on the amazing careers in engineering and technical roles for girls, and allows us to celebrate the achievements of our outstanding women engineers.
We offer our congratulations to all concerned in the University's Scottish graduation ceremonies, and now look forward to the University's Dubai graduation ceremony on 5 July. Our Dubai graduands, family and friends will be joined by Honorary Graduate Emad Azmy, President of Al Shafar General Contracting, one of the United Arab Emirates leading building and contracting companies. This will be followed by Heriot-Watt graduation ceremonies in Baku and Malaysia.
