Heriot-Watt’s physicists were on hand at the inaugural Festival of Physics to share their passion for physics and interdisciplinary research.

Held over the weekend, more than 1,200 members of the public stopped by to find out more about innovative research taking place across the physics sphere.

It was fantastic opportunity for us to take some of our research out of the laboratory and make it accessible to visitors of all ages.

From our research into using laser tweezers to assist cell biologists, to high speed cameras capable of seeing light in motion – there was something to inspire all ages.

Organised by the Institute of Physics in Scotland, this brand-new festival celebrated the wonders of physics, its application to the modern world, the power of curiosity, and the inventions and discoveries that shape our world and our future.

Dr Bill Macpherson added: “It was really great to see our younger visitors getting involved with hands-on science, asking questions, and developing their enthusiasm for physics.”
