A new Enterprise and Innovation Hub is opening on Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh Campus in September, that will provide a creative space for its student and staff entrepreneurs to develop their business ideas and access expert advice.

Heriot-Watt is committed to establishing itself as a world leading institution in transformational innovation and advanced entrepreneurial education; developing leaders that generate ground-breaking products, revolutionary companies, and entirely new industries and supply chains.

To achieve this, the University is opening a new Enterprise and Innovation Hub in September that will provide a creative space for its student and staff entrepreneurs to develop their business ideas and access expert advice. Based in the newly renovated James Watt Centre on the Edinburgh Campus, the Hub will also give Heriot-Watt entrepreneurs the chance to test their ideas and products using virtual reality and HoloLens technology.

This is just the start of the University's push on entrepreneurship, innovation and research which, in 2019, will be enhanced with the opening of a state of the art Discovery and Innovation Centre that will respond to dynamic political, economic, social, technological and legislative environments to drive change that can transform lives and make a positive impact.

Building on success

This initiaitve builds on the success of Heriot-Watt spin out companies, such as Chromacity.

Chromacity, a manufacturer of ultrashort lasers across the near and mid-Infrared, has just closed a second seed investment round of £400,000 to expand its manufacturing capabilities and grow international sales.

Founded in 2013, Chromacity spun out of Heriot-Watt University and since then, the co-founders have developed innovative laser products initially for life-science imaging applications. The product portfolio has now grown to 4 key products with major applications in defence and security, remote sensing, fundamental research and spectroscopy.
