Heriot-Watt University is taking a lead role in welcoming international students from across the globe this week, by taking part in the Scotland Welcomes the World campaign.

A welcome wall has been erected in the main reception area of the University and international students are being encouraged to sign their names and personal messages on the wall.

There is also a social media campaign, where students and staff can post pictures and messages using the hashtag #ScotlandWelcomestheWorld.

Today and ahead we are proud to shout out from our institutions why we are proud to welcome the world.

Led by Universities Scotland the national campaign is a celebration of the value and impact of international students and staff in each university and across the nation.

The project also aims to show that Scotland is inclusive, diverse and welcoming.

Professor Richard A Williams, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Heriot-Watt said:

“We understand we succeed only because we share in the experience of our international students and staff's diversity, cultures and wisdom.

“We are proud of our 32,000 students who come from 123 different countries and are able to study in Scotland, Dubai or Malaysia.

“I’d encourage all our international students to get involved, by posting their own pictures and messages on social media.

“Let us do all we can to shout out that Heriot-Watt University and Scotland Welcomes the World!”
