Heriot-Watt’s global reputation as a leader in robotics has been recognised by one of the European Union’s most prominent figures.
Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research Science and Innovation, was welcomed to the University’s Edinburgh Campus during a special visit this week.
"The Commissioner was pleased to meet researchers and inventors benefiting from EU and Scottish Government funding."
He was given a guided tour of the state-of-art Robotarium by Principal, Professor Richard A Williams, and Professor David Lane, Founding Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics.
This was followed with an informal meeting at the Edinburgh Business School (EBS) with academics and young entrepreneurs to discuss innovation and enterprise within the industry.
Professor Williams said: "In our roundtable discussions with innovators in Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh Business School we discussed needs for developing new EU assessment and funding models for radical innovations and social innovators, including plans to attract 'patient capital' for long term investment into new ideas.
