A Heriot-Watt homelessness researcher has made the prestigious Inside Housing Scottish Leaders List.

The list, voted for by industry professionals, aims to recognise individuals who have succeeded in driving progress in the housing sector.

Professor Suzanne Fitzpatrick made the celebrated list for her research into the causes of homelessness and social exclusion in Scotland, the wider UK, and abroad.

I'm delighted to make the Scottish Leaders List, working alongside colleagues it's great to be part of something which brings about real change.

Professor Suzanne Fitzpatrick

Suzanne has played a leading role in improving homelessness legislation in all three countries in Great Britain, with the Scottish legislation in particular winning international acclaim.

Speaking about the achievement, Suzanne said:

“Housing is a hot topic both politically and socially, with supply and affordability issues stimulating public debate.

“With this in mind, we will continue to drive through new solutions and research into the problem of homelessness and how it can be avoided.”

The process of making the Scottish Leaders List began in March, when readers of Inside Housing were invited to nominate colleagues and those in the sector who inspire them.

Delegates at the Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland's annual conference then gave feedback on what good leadership should look like. These responses formed the basis for the judging criteria.
