A recent fashion graduate from Heriot-Watt University has scooped a prestigious award from The Herald.
Alannah Cooper who recently received a First Class Honours BA Fashion Communications degree won Herald Online Fashion Graduate of the Year at a glittering awards event in Glasgow, last night (Monday 6 November).
Leading figures in Scotland’s online fashion industry gathered at the event to celebrate the country’s most dynamic retailers, bloggers, stylists and entrepreneurs.
The awards seek to reward up and coming talent with the Scottish Online Fashion Graduate of the Year Award.
Alannah Cooper of Alannah Eileen, picked up the prestigious prize for her achievements gained in the transition between university and the professional fashion world.
She said: “I was delighted to be awarded the Herald Online Fashion Graduate of the Year Award. The Award, which was sponsored by Bridge 2 Business, who were very kind and encouraging.
“I met so many inspiring people from the Scottish fashion industry. It was lovely to be able to represent Heriot Watt and all of the opportunities that have come from studying BA (Hons) Fashion Communication.”
Professor Fiona Waldron, Head of Textiles and Design school, said: “A huge congratulations to Alannah. We’re all very proud her achievements, creativity and dedication to fashion and design.”
Geoff Leask, chief executive of Young Enterprise Scotland, said: “Well done to all the winners on the night, and a massive congratulations to Alannah Cooper for winning the Herald Online Fashion Graduate of the Year Award.
“The judges had a really tough decision to make, but Alannah stood out with her attitude and passion for the world of online fashion. We look forward to hearing and seeing more of Alannah and we’ll watch her career with a real interest. She will be a great inspiration to many other up and coming fashion professionals for years to come.”
Alannah, who is originally from Orkney has already won a handful of awards, including the highly acclaimed Best Photography award at Graduate Fashion Week and has featured in Vogue and Elle magazines, amongst others.
Other Heriot-Watt students who were shortlisted for The Fashion Herald Awards include Nadia Pinkney, a former Fashion graduate and Ruth MacGilp, a second year Fashion Communications student.
