Heriot-Watt among top 150 universities in world subject rankings

Heriot-Watt University has been ranked among the world's top universities in 12 subjects in the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2017. 

The university was ranked in the world's top 150 for Chemical Engineering, and Civil and Structural Engineering. Heriot-Watt's Statistics & Operational Research course (Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics) was placed the world's top 200.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject highlight the world's top universities in a range of popular subject areas. Published annually since 2011, the rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.  This year, over 4,400 global universities were assessed. 

In the new subject listings, Heriot-Watt University was ranked among the world's top universities in: Linguistics; Computer Science and information Systems; Chemical Engineering; Civil and Structural Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Chemistry; Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy; Business and Management Studies; Statistics and Operational Research (Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics).

The subject rankings are an extension of the overall institutional ranking tables in which Heriot-Watt University was ranked 327th in the world, 41st in UK and 7th in Scotland, placing the institution in the top 4% of universities globally.

The University was also ranked in the UK top 10 for proportion of international students and international faculty.
