A group of academics from Heriot-Watt University are set to take to the stage, at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
It's great to have our academics take to the stage at the internationally acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Associate Professor in Psychology, Alan Gow will discuss results from ‘What Keeps You Sharp?' a fascinating nationwide survey on attitudes towards the changes people experience in their thinking skills as they get older.
The event aims to explore why some people experience changes while they age and others do not and what lifestyles affect those changes in thinking behaviour.
While Associate Professor from Life Sciences, Derek Ball, is set to look at the controversial subject of doping in sport in the unique gameshow ‘Dae Ye Have a Sick-Line, Ken?'.
Themes up for discussion include; are some athletes lucky that a drug they require for health reasons is also a potential performance booster and what about bionic limbs? Do the rules make a difference, or should we have a free-for-all?
Finally, Civil Engineer Elli-Maria Charalampidou from Heriot-Watt University and Nikolaos Papadogiannis from Bangor University will be looking at sustainability in their joint show ‘Can Sustainability Ever Be Mainstream?'
Both will host an entertaining talk on saving the environment through sustainability and why it needs to be built into all parts of our society's culture – even our beach holidays in Marbella.

“The Festival is always a highlight in many people's diaries and it is the ideal way to get our research and knowledge out there into the public sphere.
“These shows will be entertaining as well as informative and will go towards stimulating public debate on a wide range of hot topics.”
Alan Gow's ‘What Keeps You Sharp' is taking place on Tuesday 15 August at 1.50pm to 2.50pm and Saturday 19 August at 8.20pm to 9.20pm.
Derek Ball's ‘Dae Ye Have a Sick-Line, Ken?' has two shows on Monday 21 August at 1.50pm and 2.50pm.
Elli-Maria Charalampidou and Nikolaos Papadogiannis's ‘Can Sustainability Ever Be Mainstream?' will take place on Sunday 27 August at 1.50pm and 2.50pm.
All events are in the New Town Theatre, Freemasons Hall, 96 George Street, Edinburgh.
