There are an estimated nine million researchers in the world today who produce upwards of two million reports each year. From these Thomson Reuters identifies three thousand of  'The World's Most Influential Scientific Minds' based on which researchers have produced published works which are most cited by their peers. Covering an 11-year period, highly cited papers rank in the top 1% of the citation distributions of comparable papers, matched for field and age.

Professor Stone, listed in the Pharmacology and Toxicology section of the report, is featured for the second year running. The report's editors note, 'Everyone acknowledged in this book is a person of influence in the sciences and social sciences. They are often the researchers now on the cutting edge of their specialties. They are performing and publishing work that their peers recognize as central to the advancement of their science. These researchers are, thus, among the most influential scientific minds of our time.'

International influence and recognition

University Principal Professor Richard A Williams said, “This is a clear confirmation of the international influence and recognition that Professor Stone's work attracts.

“We offer her our congratulations on her second inclusion in this prestigious listing which recognises her personal achievements and underlines Heriot-Watt's standing as a leading, research-led University delivering innovation and solutions to global challenges.”

Professor Vicki Stone said, “I would like to thank all of the colleagues, mentors and students who helped and contributed to the body of work on which this selection has been based. On behalf of everyone involved I am delighted for this recognition.”
