Heriot-Watt has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tianjin University of Finance and Economics (TUFE), marking the development of a partnership dating back to 2012.
It aims to promote international co-operation through academic collaboration in both research and education.
Earlier elements of the partnership included the establishment of the Confucius Institute of Business and Communication at Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh Campus with TUFE, a student exchange programme between the two Universities as well as an Articulation Agreement in a range of subjects, where students undertake the first two years of their course at TUFE and the last two years at Heriot-Watt University (2+2).
The new MoU takes forward a joint commitment to develop more collaborative teaching and research between TUFE and Heriot-Watt. The focus is on staff and student exchange, more 2+2 arrangements across a wider range of subjects, and collaboration on research, in particular the opportunity for joint PhDs in the field of Accounting. TUFE is a top institution in China for Accounting and Finance.
Ruth Moir, Assistant Principal (International Development) at Heriot-Watt, said, “We very much welcome the signing of this MoU as the latest step in a successful, long-term relationship with TUFE. It aims to promote international co-operation through academic collaboration in both research and education.
“This development in our partnership will benefit both institutions, our students, staff and our research portfolios.”
