The event highlighted some of the unique and innovative concepts requested of participants for a residential design project at 'The Villa' in Dubailand, which challenged second year Architecture students to create a villa design, within a 650 square meter plot, which would embrace outdoor living in a harmonious community.

Students shared new concepts and unique ideas for a residential design which would resonate with the planners and local residents. They were urged to think outside the box by 'Unboxing the Cube, and were evaluated on their design, concept originality, addressing the needs of the site, as well as drawing and presentation skills. The judges, including prominent architecture professionals, academics from other universities and members of Dubai Municipalities, evaluated on design, concept originality, addressing the needs of the site and drawing and presentation skills.

They named Klara Partyova in first place, Sarin Agobian in second place and Mitali Bagal and Amos Boniface in joint third place.

Dr Harpreet Seth, Assistant Professor in the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design at the Dubai Campus, said, “The showcase is a great platform for our Architecture students as they're dealing with a project design at a real site and client whilst receiving valuable feedback from the design fraternity.

“The combination of our rigorous academic courses with real life challenges helps equip our students with the necessary skills required to flourish in this industry.”
