The Institution of Mechanical Engineers has inaugurated its first UAE Student Chapter at a ceremony at Heriot-Watt University's Dubai Campus, with a visit from President Professor Richard Folkso to mark the occasion.
The Institution is one of the fastest growing professional engineering institutions. Headquartered in London, with operations around the world, the Institution has over 11,000 members in more than 140 countries, working at the heart of the most important and dynamic industries.
During his visit Professor Folkson delivered a presentation to students and staff on the subject of his career successes and inaugurated the United Arab Emirates' first Institution chapter at the University's Dubai Campus.
Connection and excellence
Professor Folkson said, “I am delighted with what I have seen today at the Campus. Inspiring the next generation and allowing students to connect with one another through the Institution's first UAE Student Chapter means we can all look forward to seeing students excel within the mechanical engineering industry in the near future.“
Heriot-Watt Vice-Principal (Dubai), Professor Ammar Kaka, said, “We have been honoured to host Professor Folkson here at the University's Dubai Campus. To have such a knowledgeable figure in the engineering sector discuss his career path and his achievements was inspirational to our students.”
