The Immersive and Controlled training Environment (ICE) research project led by Dr Mohamed Abdel-Wahab and Dr Frédéric Bosché, of the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) has received not one, but two International Research and Innovation awards from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
A unique achievement that we are very proud of.
The awards, which the team received at the CIOB Scotland Annual Dinner, were the Premier Award in the Digital Innovation category for its Activity Tracking with Body Area Network (AT-BAN) system and the Highly-Commended Award in the Innovation in Education and Training category for its immersive Hybrid Reality (iHR) systems.
Dr Bosché, who leads the CyberBuild lab at Heriot-Watt, said, "We are really honoured by these two awards. They reward not only the hard work the entire team has done over the past three years of the project, but also the fantastic collaborations we have with our various project partners, the Construction Industry Training Board, Edinburgh College, Forth Valley College, and more recently Fife College, the Energy Skills Partnership, the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and Scottish Water."
Dr Abdel-Wahab added, "Receiving not just one but two awards in the same year by the same research team is a unique achievement that we are very proud of. These awards will certainly help us expand the impact of this project and develop further collaborations."
The ICE research project team also includes Dr Ludovico Carozza, Dr Aparajithan Sivanathan and Dr Enrique Valero.
