When Tom Seatter was awarded his MEng he became the third generation of his family to gain a degree from Heriot-Watt.
I always say that Heriot-Watt offers fantastic engineering courses in a fantastic city.
Tom was joined at the ceremony by his father Stewart Seatter, who graduated with a BSc in Offshore Engineering in 1981,and his grandfather Dennis, who graduated with a BA(Hons) in Business Organisation in 1962.
Tom, who is about to start a job with FMC Technologies, says he had no hesitation in following his father and grandfather in choosing Heriot-Watt for his studies after seeing their later successful career paths.
Dennis Seatter established his own company, Hesco Handling Engineering Services, which is still operating and specialises in lifting equipment for the oil industry, while Stewart Seatter joined Shell before becoming General Manager of Murphy Oil and now Engineering Director for Worley Parsons Arabia.
Tom said, “I always say that Heriot-Watt offers fantastic engineering courses in a fantastic city. Seeing what my father and grandfather achieved following their studies gave me the confidence to follow them to Heriot-Watt and I found it to be a great learning experience thanks especially to the extraordinary supportive staff.”
