SML PhD students at the Global Management Series launch event

Heriot-Watt's School of Management and Languages (SML), in partnership with Goodfellow Publishers Ltd, has published the first of 20 business management textbooks to support core courses taught across the School's undergraduate Business Management programmes at the University and through  Approved Learning Partners.

Each text is written by teams comprising staff and PhD students and matches the course lecture materials. As part of the publishing deal, the largest beneficiaries of the royalties will be the Goodfellow Global Management Scholarships, which will be used to contribute to flight and accommodation costs to allow selected SML students from Edinburgh, Dubai and Malaysia to study at one of the University’s other campuses during their courses.

This is a model of academic collaboration worthy of adoption across our international University.
Professor John Sawkins

The Research Methods text has already been adopted by other HEIs which will further enhance the reputation of the School and increase the size of the scholarship fund.

Professor John Sawkins, Deputy Principal (Learning and Teaching) at Heriot-Watt, said, “The new Global Management Series is an exciting demonstration of the way in which opportunities for global collaboration in teaching and learning can be exploited for the benefit of our students, wherever they are studying.

"It is particularly welcome to see experienced academic staff teaming up with postgraduate research students to produce book chapters which are refreshingly varied in style, thought provoking and accessible not only to undergraduate students, but anyone with an interest in the principles and practice of management. This is a model of academic collaboration worthy of adoption across our international University."

The next three titles in the series are due for publication in January 2016 and further details on the partnership can be found on the SML website.
