Heriot-Watt’s Alumni Relations programme got off to a great start this month by welcoming back onto campus graduate, honorary graduate and Olympian, Freya Ross.
As the first female to headline our Leadership Lecture series, Freya’s talk on “How to be a winner in life” covered the highs and lows she has faced in her running career. After injury forced her to pull out of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Freya had to restart training from the ground up, and with the support of her family and colleagues is well on track to her goal of competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
In a talk that covered her inspiration to get running at a young age, to her time as a Sports Scholar at Heriot-Watt and advice to current Sports Scholarship students, Freya helped inspire the audience to develop their dreams into goals, and don’t stop until you achieve them.
The Leadership Lecture series is sponsored by Diageo, and brings influential speakers to campus throughout the year. Examples of previous talks include Dr. Uwe Krueger, Chief Executive Officer at WS Atkins Plc; Richard Tait, inventor of the board game Cranium; and Jock Clear, Senior Race Engineer, Formula 1 Mercedes AMG Petronas team.
If you would like to be added to our mailing list to hear about upcoming talks, please email watt.club@hw.ac.uk or follow Heriot-Watt’s alumni association on Facebook.
