International Fashion Entrepreneurs gather at Heriot-Watt

Renowned entrepreneurs from the International Fashion Scene have met at the University’s Edinburgh Campus for a conference on Entrepreneurship in Fashion.

To be able to bring some of the fashion industry’s leading entrepreneurs to Edinburgh and put some of the great things that are going on in Scotland on the fashion map is wonderful.

The event was one of a series being hosted by the Enterprise of Culture Project, a European funded research group which is part of the Humanities in the European Research Area funding framework, with a further conference to be held at the campus next year.

The event, organised by Elaine Collinson and Andrew MacLaren of the School of Management and Languages, was attended by fashion industry professionals, academics and members of the public from around the world.

Key industry speakers

Former Supermodel and Director of the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival, Anna Freemantle joined Schuh Managing Director Colin Temple, and Tom Hendren, CEO of one of the world’s leading luxury store merchandising companies Array Marketing, for a roundtable discussion on the interface between design and commerce in fashion.

Andrew MacLaren, Director of Heriot-Watt’s International Fashion Marketing Degree Programme and Conference Chair, said, “To be able to bring some of the fashion industry’s leading entrepreneurs to Edinburgh and put some of the great things that are going on in Scotland on the fashion map is wonderful.”

“The conversations we have had today have proved that the dynamic among industry, research and university teaching is worthwhile exploring when it comes to fashion and entrepreneurship.”
