Staff at Heriot-Watt have been working in partnership with the Scottish FA to develop a short course for aspiring young referees aimed at developing their knowledge and experience of issues associated with successful and effective officiating.The course includes material that has been developed by staff in the School of Management and Languages, School of Life Sciences and Oriam, giving it a distinct multidisciplinary feel.
Delegates will attend ten modules on a range of topics, including how memory can be affected by high energy situations, working with and understanding diverse groups and how to manage conflict through mediation and developing positive relationships.Heriot-Watt hopes that this learning partnership with the SFA and other national governing bodies will grow over the coming years as more coaches, athletes and officials use the Edinburgh campus and Oriam as their permanent training base in Scotland.
