Professor Richard A Williams, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University and Vice- President of Royal Academy of Engineering, has joined Britain’s leading engineering companies’ CEOs and Vice-Presidents, in asking the UK government to support Britain’s innovative research and development.

Invest in Innovation

In a letter, published in the Sunday Telegraph on 1 November, they ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer to consider how each £1 of public investment attracts £1.60 of private investment and to spell out a clear and enduring industrial strategy before the next spending review in November.

The signatories state that public investment is critical to the success of Britain’s productivity and to continue to attract investment from overseas, Britain must adopt a long-term industrial strategy.
