Heriot-Watt appoints new Director of Research and Enterprise Services

Heriot-Watt University has appointed Dr Alicia Greated as its new Director of Research and Enterprise Services (RES).

Dr Greated’s extensive experience of the Research Councils will be a great asset to the University. She has extensive international experience including having been a key player in forming research relationships in countries where Heriot-Watt has strong links

Dr Greated will join Heriot-Watt from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) where she is currently Head of the Newton Programme Management Team, leading on the effective delivery of the Newton Fund – a £375million research and innovation fund.

Dr Greated, who holds a PhD in Environmental Molecular Microbiology from the University of Birmingham and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Glasgow, has more than 14 years of experience working in research, enterprise and innovation both domestically and internationally and through collaborative partnerships both in the public and private sector.

Her expertise and extensive experience covers the spectrum of research and enterprise from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC); The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), Research Councils UK (RCUK) in the UK and overseas, and the Newton Programme Management Team and has seen her develop exceptional leadership, strategic and communication skills.

Heriot-Watt Acting Principal Professor Julian Jones said, “Dr Greated’s extensive experience of the Research Councils will be a great asset to the University. She has extensive international experience including having been a key player in forming research relationships in countries where Heriot-Watt  has strong links, and her skills will be welcome in maintaining our world-class reputation across our core disciplines of science and engineering, business and management, languages and design.”

Dr Greated will take up her position on 1 December 2015.
