Obinna Chudi, a PhD student at Heriot-Watt University's Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE), has won the prestigious Schlumberger global student competition for his abstract titled: "Integrating Basin Modelling and Advanced Petrophysical Analysis in Reservoir Quality Prediction of Unexplored Oligocene Reservoir-Offshore Niger Delta".
The abstract was co-authored by his supervisors Dr Helen Lewis and Prof. Dorrik Stow, also of IPE.
Best Student Abstract Award
Obinna presented his research at the SIS Global Forum held on 15-17 April 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. Attendees represented a wide range of Oil and Gas companies, and supporting service companies.
His talk was very well received and regarded as one of the best presentations.
Uwem Ukpong, SIS President and Heriot-Watt Alumnus, presented Obinna with the Best Student Abstract Award during the Forum's closing ceremony.
Obinna Chudi's PhD is generously funded by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) of Nigeria and the data being used in his research was provided by Shell Rijswijk and by Shell Nigeria where he worked as a Petrophysicist before taking study leave.
His attendance at the event was supported by The Energy Technology Partnership (ETP).
