A first-year Heriot-Watt University student, Tarige Kamblawi, is looking to help UK households reduce water usage and energy bills, with an idea he has submitted to the Shell Ideas360 competition.
Eco Kettle

Reducing utility bills is at the top of the agenda for families, but a significant issue with UK households is the amount of water they waste. The Energy Saving Trust says that three-quarters of British households overfill their kettles, wasting a total of £68m a year.
Global competition
Shell Ideas360 is a global competition to inspire and excite a future generation of leaders and innovators to think about the challenges the energy industry faces and develop 'potentially investment-worthy' business cases with the support of Shell mentors and subject matter experts.
His idea will now go head to head with some of the best student talent across the globe to potentially enter Stage Three of Shell Ideas360, where he could be invited to pitch his idea to a panel of judges at Shell Eco-Marathon Europe in Rotterdam, and be considered for funding by the Shell GameChanger programme, which has invested over $300 million to date in new ideas.
Inspired by growing up in his native Sudan where water was at a shortage, and watching his parents waste water and energy at home in Edinburgh, Tarige hopes to win Shell Ideas360, and then develop the Cordless Dual-Chambered Eco Kettle for production in the UK.
