Junko Hutahaean, a first year PhD student with the Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE), has received the 2014 SPE STAR Fellowship Award for the North Sea region awarded by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
Junko's academic record has been outstanding with a Cum-Laude in his Bachelor degree and A Top Distinction (Straight-A grade in all components) in his MSc Reservoir Evaluation and Management (REM) from IPE. On completing his MSc he was awarded the Best MSc REM Project prize and the British Petroleum (BP) prize for Excellence. Junko also has several years' experience of working in the petroleum industry.
Dr Andy Gardiner, Programme Director for REM, was delighted when he heard that Junko had been awarded a PhD research studentship with IPE and, indeed, was somewhat envious of his supervisors. Andy said: "I am sure that he will produce excellent work and be a fully-engaged member of his research team".
The fellowship funding will be used as additional support for Junko's research studies. He has a full scholarship from a Joint-Industry Program (JIP) which includes BG Group, E-ON, JOGMEC and RockFlowDynamics.
His work will involve carrying out an integration of reservoir engineering knowledge into assisted history matching for robust uncertainty quantification of reservoir performance and optimization workflows. He is a member of the Uncertainty Quantification group and is supervised by Prof. Mike Christie and Dr Vasily Demyanov.
SPE STAR Scholarships and Fellowships
