First Minister visits Heriot-Watt Laboratories

First Minister Alex Salmond paid a visit to Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh Campus to visit two cutting-edge laboratories and hear about research projects, as he made an announcement on a successful jobs creation project.

Welcomed to the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS)  by the Principal, Professor Steve Chapman, Professor Gill Hogg, Deputy Principal (External Relations) and Professor Steve McLaughlin, Head of EPS, Mr Salmond visited the Innovative Manufacturing in Laser-based Production Processes and the Edinburgh Super Resolution Imaging Consortium (ESRIC).

He was briefed by Professor Duncan Hand, EPS Director of Research, and Professor Rory Duncan, Head of the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering, and met with their colleagues and PhD students.

Mr Salmond spoke to journalists about the importance of investment to create jobs, of securing inward investment and about key job creation strategies.
