The Centre for Innovation in Carbon Capture and Storage (CICCS) at Heriot-Watt University welcomed a Chinese delegation of the Euro-China Near Zero Emission Coal (NZEC) project on 24 September 2014.

The delegation included key Chinese policy makers from the Administrative Center for China's Agenda 21 (ACCA21), top scientists in carbon capture and storage and project managers energy companies Sinopec and China Huaneng Group. The visit aimed to encourage international collaboration for a cleaner and low carbon future.

The delegation was very impressed by the depth and breadth of research activities in CICCS. Dr Peng Sizhen, Deputy Director General of the ACCA21, who visited CICCS in March 2009, praised the significant development of the centre during the last five years. It was mutually agreed that the visit has enhanced the understanding of the development of CCS technologies in both countries and potential collaborations were identified in several key areas in CCS.
