Recognised as world leaders in oil and gas research and teaching, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (Gubkin) and Heriot-Watt University have signed an agreement to launch a new MSc in Applied Petroleum Geosciences, scheduled to start in September 2014.
Students will achieve the optimal balance of theoretical skills and practical experience. Programme graduates will become professionals at an internationally recognised level and will remain in a great demand across world petroleum industry.
The programme will be taught in English to students in Moscow, Russia, by a group of Heriot-Watt certified scholars. These scholars visited Heriot-Watt University's Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE) during the first and second semesters 2013/14. While there they studied the MSc Petroleum Geoscience programme and also took a specifically structured learning and teaching training programme.
The residential teaching in Moscow will be supplemented throughout the year by visiting academics from IPE who will provide mentoring and deliver supporting master-classes. The programme includes eight taught courses with field exploration project and an individual research project as well as a geological field trip to Wessex basin (UK) guided by Heriot-Watt.
Successful graduates will obtain two degrees - from Heriot-Watt University and from Gubkin University of Oil and Gas.
Prof. Valery Ryzhkov, Director of the Gubkin Approved Learning Partner programme, remarked that, "The programme will bring together the most recent advances in teaching the cutting-edge geoscience from the two academic schools' backgrounds. This will ensure the students will achieve the optimal balance of theoretical skills and practical experience. The programme graduates will become professionals at an internationally recognised level and will remain in a great demand across world petroleum industry."
We welcome collaboration with industrial partners interested in sponsoring places on the MSc programme or in recruiting skilled MSc Applied Petroleum Geosciences graduates.
