University's Strategic Plan launched at the Scottish Parliament

The Principal hosted a reception at the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday 12 March to officially launch the University's Strategic Plan (2013-18). The reception, which was kindly sponsored by Gordon MacDonald MSP, the University's local MSP saw a keynote speech from Mr Mike Russell, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning to the audience that included MSPs, business and industry leaders and Consuls.

The Strategic Plan focuses on our commitment to research and expanding our international reach. The plan sets out our vision to be world-leading across many key areas such as science, engineering, technology and business.

The event was also an opportunity to celebrate the success of the University over the last 12 months as well as engage with key stakeholders and give them an overview of the University's strategic aims and objectives over the next five years.

Professor Steve Chapman, Principal of Heriot-Watt University said, "This is an ambitious strategy which shows our priorities for the next five years as we continue as a high performing, rapidly growing, and financially sustainable university. Our mission is to create and exchange knowledge for the benefit of society, thinking about the bigger picture and not just what benefits the university.

At Heriot-Watt University we are confident that our plans for the future and the strategies we have put in place, as well as our links to business and industry, will help us continue to grow and develop offering degrees that get students working for the greater good of the economy and Scotland as a whole."
