A report co-ordinated by Dr Sebastian Hennige and Professor Murray Roberts from the University's Centre for Marine Biodiversity & Biotechnology (Life Sciences) was presented at the United Nations in New York on 18 June 2013.
Life in a changing ocean
'Life in a Changing Ocean' is an updated synthesis of the impacts of ocean acidification on marine biodiversity written by world authorities on the subject from Australia, China/Hong Kong, France, Germany, India, Japan, Monaco, Norway, Sweden, UK and USA.
UN Convention of Biological Diversity
Heriot-Watt University was commissioned to lead the report in collaboration with Dr Phil Williamson of the University of East Anglia, who co-ordinates the UK Ocean Acidification programme. The report will be published by the UN's Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Secretariat and follows the first CBD report on ocean acidification in 2009. Since then the research literature on ocean acidification has increased five-fold with over 14,000 citations on this issue in the last ten years.
The new report will be published by the CBD in 2014 with a Foreword by Dr Rajendra Pachauri (Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).
