Kathryn competes at World Championship event

Swimmer and Heriot-Watt student, Kathryn Johnstone, recently competed in the British Gas World Championship Trials in Sheffield. She came second in the 50m and fifth in the 100m breaststroke events.

Kathryn said "Being the World Championship trials, the competition standard was world class. I was pleased with my overall time in the 1000m breaststroke, finishing only 0.3 seconds slower than I did two weeks previously at the Scottish Championships.

"I was disappointed however with my 50m performance and unfortunately didn't qualify for the world championships in Barcelona."

Kathryn is a third year BSC Sport and Exercise student and Heriot-Watt Sports Scholar. Talking about the Sports Scholarship scheme she said, "The scholar scheme is amazing at helping me to continue competing at a high level whilst also obtaining my degree. Without their support I would struggle to continue with my studies whilst training and competing."

Kathryn is not aiming to compete in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
