Students won singing competitions

First year student, David Norris won the Singers Class - Songs from the Shows at the Glasgow Music Festival.

The Glasgow Musical Festival was held from 2 to 16 March and covered a wide range of music including classical, folk, jazz, rock and traditional Scottish music. Commenting on the competition, David said, "It was a really great experience to perform in the Glasgow Music Festival in that you get to see performances from other musicians, as well as receiving feedback on your own performance from an external adjudicator. I'm a big fan of musicals, so winning the 'Songs from the Shows' category at the festival was a great achievement because it's something I have real passion for."

Fourth year student, Asha Sheppard won the Oratorio Class at the Edinburgh Competition Festival.

The 2013 Festival was held from 27 February to 9 March. Over 1500 performers took part in over 100 classes, held in St Cuthbert's Church and St Mark's Church in Edinburgh. The festival closed with a final concert at the Queen's Hall, with a selection of highlight performances from the festival and the final of the concerto class, in which four soloists were accompanied by The Friends of the Festival orchestra conducted by James Lowe.
