Congratulations to Heriot-Watt student athletes who took part at the BUCS British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Gatorade Nationals in Sheffield last week:
- Swimming: Kathryn Johnstone, Sport and Exercise Science, won Gold medals in 50m and 100m Breaststroke and a Silver medal in 200m Breaststroke.
- Orienteering: Alison Campbell, Chemical Engineering, finished 13th in the Individual Women's A competition.
- Judo: Andrew Scott, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, came fifth in the -81kgs category.
The BUCS Gatorade Nationals is the pinnacle of the university sporting season for Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Climbing, Fencing, Judo, Karate, Orienteering, Rifle, Swimming, Tenpin Bowling and Trampolining, allowing student athletes the opportunity to earn points for their university which feed into the overarching university points table.
Nearly 6,000 student athletes from 134 UK universities took part in the inaugural championships. A total of 145 National titles were decided across 12 sports with 180 athletes winning gold in individual and/or team championships.
