PhD student awarded at Young Researchers' Conference

PhD student Muhammad Aslam Bhutto from the School of the Built Environment won the second prize for his poster at the annual Young Researchers' Conference 2013.

The 15th Young Researchers' Conference (YRC) was organized on 14 March 2013 by the 'Institution of Structural Engineers' at its international headquarters in London. The YRC is an annual event which provides a platform for research students to present their work and exchange ideas with their peers, industry leaders and members of the institution. More than 70 young researchers, mostly PhD students, from all over the UK participated in the conferences and their papers were published in the conference proceedings. Out of them, nine young researchers were selected to give 15 minute oral presentations. Another 16 young researchers were selected to present their posters.

Muhammad, who works with Professor Ian M May at the Institute for Infrastructure and Environment, created a poster for his project on "FRP composites for strengthening of steel bridge members" and received the second prize in the poster competition. He received £200 plus a certificate and a book.
