Kathryn wins hat-trick of golds at BUCS swimming championship

Heriot-Watt student Kathryn Johnstone collected a hat-trick of gold medals at the British Universities & College Sports (BUCS) Short Course Championship at Ponds Forge in Sheffield over the weekend.

The fourth year Sport and Exercise student finished first in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke events and set a new BUCS record in the 200m breaststroke (2:26.05).

The success has helped in her preparation for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She said of her achievement: " Winning the hat-trick of golds at BUCS was amazing and to claim a new BUCS record in the 200m was awesome. Heriot-Watt finished 14th overall as well which is outstanding since we only had two swimmers competing over the weekend."
