An agreement has been signed by Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Sdn Bhd (HWUM) and Cambridge English for Life Sdn Bhd (CEFL), with the aim of contributing towards the improvement of the standard of English amongst university applicants in Malaysia.
CEFL, seeking to provide added value to its existing student base, will provide its students with convenient and supported access to the application process to HWUM. In turn HWUM will receive correctly completed applications from pre-screened candidates for Foundation, Undergraduate and selected Postgraduate programmes.
Commenting on the partnership agreement, Professor Robert Craik, Provost of HWUM, said that the University was seeking meaningful partnerships with local organisations with a reputation for delivering high quality services. It was important, he said, for students entering HWUM to have achieved a sufficiently high level of English proficiency to enable them to not only understand lectures and written materials, but also to be able to communicate their own ideas clearly and confidently in a variety of mediums.
Students who have successfully completed courses leading to University of Cambridge English Language Assessment, such as those offered by CEFL at CAE and CPE levels, are clearly able to do this, said Dr Elsie Chin, CEO of CEFL. For the last twelve years CEFL has been successfully delivering preparation courses for the ESOL examinations offered by the University of Cambridge. She commented that CEFL was now entering a new phase in its development and was now looking forward to seeing its successful students entering world-class institutions, such as HWUM.
