Heriot-Watt was up four places to 38th in the UK and up two places to fourth in Scotland, overtaking Aberdeen and Strathclyde, in the new combined Times and Sunday Times league table.
The methodology of the new combined table is based on the original Times league table, which placed Heriot-Watt at 42nd in the UK and sixth in Scotland last year.
Heriot-Watt was ranked in the UK top 10 for five subjects
- Chemical Engineering (4th, down from 3rd)
- Building (5th, up from 8th)
- Town & Country Planning and Landscape (6th, up from 17th)
- Food Science (8th, up from 13th)
- Mathematics (9th, up from 13th)
Top in Scotland for three subjects
The University was also ranked top in Scotland for three subjects (two more than last year):
- Chemical Engineering (1st, same as last year)
- Building (1st, up from 2nd last year)
- Civil Engineering (1st, up from 2nd last year)
Eight further subjects were ranked in the top 3 in Scotland
- Town & Country Planning and Landscape (2nd, up from 3rd)
- Food Science (2nd, same as last year)
- Mathematics (2nd, up from 3rd)
- Iberian Languages (2nd, up from 3rd)
- Mechanical Engineering (2nd, same as last year)
- Chemistry (3rd, up from 4th)
- French (3rd, same as last year)
- Art & Design (3rd, same as last year)
