The annual Worshipful Company of Actuaries Lecture took place on 29 January at Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh Campus.
The Worshipful Company of Actuaries, a Livery Company, was established in 1979 as a charitable trust, through which actuaries can help and support education in the area of mathematics. The Master of the Worshipful Company is, for the first time, a graduate of Heriot-Watt University, Mr Bill Smith (BSc Mathematics). Bill personally sponsors scholarships for students on the MSc in Actuarial Science, and he was pleased to meet the current recipients, Ewan Chalmers and Ailsa Townsend.
The Lecture was given by Dr David Hare, the President-Elect of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. David is a Heriot-Watt graduate too (PG Dip Actuarial Science), and he is the first Heriot-Watt graduate to be elected as President of the UK actuarial profession.
