Douglas Oakervee inspects ICE Scotland Museum

Douglas Oakervee CBE, former President of the Institution of Civil Engineers and currently Chairman of the HS2 Rail Project, visited the ICE Scotland Museum curated at the School of the Built Environment where he reminisced on using similar instruments early in his career.

Douglas Oakervee was visiting the University to receive an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering initiated by Professor Paul Jowitt who read the laureation. Before the ceremony he was taken round the School by Professor Peter Woodward to see cutting edge engineering developments and meet staff. Professor Roland Paxton gave Mrs Olive Oakervee and daughter Alison a conducted tour of the Museum which now includes 350 artefacts donated by engineers since 1971.
