Heriot-Watt has received the Bronze Award from the Athena SWAN Charter recognising excellence in championing employment of women in the fields of science and technology, engineering and mathematics.
The Athena SWAN Charter recognises excellence in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) employment for women in higher education. Heriot-Watt University was one of 87 successful awards in this latest round from 112 applications. There are now 257 award-holding institutions and departments across the UK. Heriot-Watt's award extends until 2016.
In achieving this Award we are clearly stating a commitment and intention to make positive changes to the culture of Heriot-Watt University and specifically helping women to progress their careers.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony at Imperial College London in November.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve Chapman said, " I'm delighted with this recognition to our efforts in promoting and developing a culture of equality and diversity. In achieving this Award we are clearly stating a commitment and intention to make positive changes to the culture of Heriot-Watt University and specifically helping women to progress their careers."
