A topping out ceremony was held on Thursday 10 May to mark the completion of the construction phase of the new £12m residences development at Heriot-Watt University's Scottish Borders Campus.
The building is part of a £26m University residences development including new residences at the University €™s Scottish Borders (SBC) and Edinburgh Campuses, replacing residences built in the early 70 €™s which are reaching the end of their useful life. Internal work and fitting out of the 218 bed space SBC residences will now commence, with work scheduled for completion and the buildings ready for occupation at the start of the next academic year.

The ceremony was attended by Professor Steve Chapman, Principal of Heriot-Watt University, with senior University management representatives, as well as Brian McQuade, Managing Director, Scotland, for Miller Construction, Liam Hanlon, Miller Regional Operations director, Bill Pilmer, Operations Manager and Clerk of Works David Lawrie.
Professor Chapman said, "We are all delighted that the project has reached this important milestone, on time and within budget, and are looking forward to the successful handover of the completed and fully fitted-out buildings on the agreed date."
Brian McQuade said, "It is our pleasure to have the Principal on site today to see how the works are progressing and to mark this significant point in the buildings progress. The project is on target to complete in July and we are enjoying the relationship we have with Heriot-Watt, which will see the delivery of a facility which will be of great benefit to students studying at the Scottish Borders Campus."
Both the Edinburgh and Scottish Borders Campus residences will comprise single rooms, each with en-suite provision, kitchens, lounges and ancillary facilities. At each location some of the rooms will be arranged as five bedroom €˜cluster €™ flats.
