The Summer graduation ceremonies came to an end on Friday 22 June. The honorary graduates for our June 2012 graduation included:
Dr Eamonn Butler, Director of the Adam Smith Institute, was awarded a Doctorate of Letters in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the advancement of public policy and economics.
Dr Thomas Baer, Executive Director Stanford Photonics Research Centre, Stanford University, was awarded a Doctorate of Science in recognition of his contributions to optical research and outstanding innovative and entrepreneurial contribution to the advancement of photonics.
Dr Kenneth Lipton, Managing Director Rofin Sinar UK Ltd, was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the advancement of laser technology and, through innovation & entrepreneurship, services to high-tech manufacturing.
Professor Lesley Yellowlees, Vice-Principal and Head of College of Science and Engineering, The University of Edinburgh, was awarded a Doctorate of Science in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the advancement of research and teaching in the field of chemistry, and her influence as an advocate, promoting engagement of the young with science.
Mike Fitchett, Former Director of Sport and Exercise, Heriot-Watt University, was awarded a Doctorate of the University in recognition of his vision, leadership and outstanding contribution, over the course of many years, to the advancement of sport at Heriot-Watt University, and for services to sport in Scotland.
Wolfgang Mössinger, Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany in Edinburgh, was awarded a Doctorate of Letters in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the advancement of cross-cultural relations, in particular through promotion in the UK of the learning of foreign languages.
William Baker, Partner, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, who was involved in the design of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest manmade structure, in Dubai, was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his distinguished career and leading and influential contribution in the field of structural engineering.
Dr Stewart Milne, Chairman and Chief Executive, Stewart Milne Group, was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his outstanding entrepreneurial contribution to the house building, construction and property development industry in Scotland and to the Scottish economy, and for services to higher education.
Mr Andy Ford, Technical Director, Mott MacDonald, was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his outstanding, innovative contribution to the advancement of sustainable design and engineering in the built environment.
Professor Judy Vance, Professor of Engineering, Iowa State University, was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of her pre-eminence in and outstanding innovative contribution to, the advancement of virtual reality engineering design applications and her influence as an advocate, promoting the participation of women in engineering.
Roger Entner, Founder and Lead Analyst, Recon Analytics, was awarded a Doctorate of Science in recognition of his leadership and outstanding contribution to the advancement of specialised research-based services in the fields of telecommunications and mobile media.
Dr Tom Crawford, Managing Director, Sense Marine, was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his visionary technical leadership and exceptional contribution to Scottish industry, the Scottish economy, and to higher education.
Sir Ian Wood, Chairman and Chief Executive, Wood Group, was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his outstanding entrepreneurship & leadership in the advancement and economic development of oil and gas services and offshore engineering.
