Heriot-Watt's position in The Times newspaper league table for 2012 has climbed two places to 42nd in the UK out of 117 institutions. It has also risen to sixth place in Scotland from seventh place in 2011.
In the individual subject areas, Heriot-Watt was ranked third in the UK, and first in Scotland, for Chemical Engineering. In addition, Heriot-Watt's Building, Mechanical Engineering, Food Science and Civil Engineering degrees were ranked second in Scotland.
The league table is part of The Times' Good University Guide, which is published annually as a guide to all UK universities, ranked according to eight measures of the undergraduate experience. The Guide is used by prospective undergraduate students and their parents to make informed decisions about which University to choose.
