World ranking
Heriot-Watt has been included in the ranking of the Times Higher Education 100 world's best institutions under 50 years old.
The University was ranked 72 in the first international league table, coming 15th in the UK , and 3rd in Scotland. Stirling University came 50th and Strathclyde University was ranked 71st.
The new league table uses the same 13 performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, but with a reduced weighting for subjective indicators of academic reputation.
'International mix'
Heriot-Watt scored highly in the "International Mix" category, ranking 14th overall - this category looks at diversity on campus, how much each university's academics collaborate with international colleagues on research projects, the ratio of international to home staff, and the proportion of total research journal publications with at least one international co-author.
The ranking is headed by Pohang University of Science and Technology in South Korea, followed by Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Overall, the UK has the most universities in the list of the world's best higher education establishments under the age of 50, although it fails to rank in the top five. The University of York, Lancaster University and the University of East Anglia come in at eighth, ninth and tenth place respectively.
