Dr Scott Dalgarno, a Reader from the School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, won the inaugural ChemComm Emerging Investigator Lectureship.

This annual award recognises an emerging scientist in the early stages of their independent academic career. The Editorial Board commended Dr Dalgarno's contributions to the field of supramolecular chemistry, in particular the assembly and properties of calixarenes.

Dr Dalgarno said: "I'm delighted to have been selected by the Editorial board of Chemical Communications as the first recipient for this new award.

"It will be an excellent opportunity to promote Heriot-Watt University Chemistry at several international events in the coming year."

Dr Dalgarno will present his award lecture, entitled 'Metal-Organic Calixarene Assemblies', at a series of events in September this year:

  • Challenges in Organic Materials & Supramolecular Chemistry (ISACS6), Beijing, China, 2-5 September 2011
  • Chemical Science Symposium, Nanjing, China, 6 September 2011
  • Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, 8h September 2011
