Work was shown from Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing & Retailing students from years one and two.

Design students took over the catwalk with their creativity shown in womenswear and menswear whilst Fashion Marketing & Retailing students produced professional exhibitions which promoted the catwalk designers utilising their skills in photography, branding, advertising & brochures.

Art studio collaboration

Heriot-Watt students - along with students from "Mawaheb (talent) from Beautiful People", an art studio established for young adults with special needs in Dubai - collaborated on a show-stopper made from the paintings of Mawaheb students with a 5 metre long train.

The paintings were all interpretations of Dubai, with modern adaptations of the Burj Al Arab, desert scenes and Bedouin tents which all came together to create "The Dubai Dress' which will, during the summer, be on show at various venues across Dubai.

Showcasing students' achievements

Vanessa Northway, Academic Head of the School of Textiles & Design said: "Our students have used this evening's event to bring all their hard work to life and showcase their talent. Their creativity, understanding of the design process and target markets were all on display today. We are very proud of the achievements made in two years at the Dubai Campus."

As well as the main fashion show, the event saw performances from the University's dance students, a special beauty area with hair styling and make-up trials from Babyliss and Mushkbar, and a display of all the Mawaheb paintings.

Brand sponsors

Many well known brands sponsored the event: Babyliss provided hair equipment as well as prizes and gifts for the female models and judges; Splash helped the designers by sponsoring the creations with accessories and gift bags for the male models; Spring By Club Apparel ensured that all the models had their best foot forward sponsoring the shoes for womenswear outfits; Mushkbar Salon created hair and make-up for all the models; and Style360 filmed the entire event and interviewed many of the team for TV release.
