The violinist Nicola Benedetti joined distinguished representatives of industry, social work, the Diplomatic service and the University itself in being awarded honorary degrees by Heriot-Watt University at the autumn diet of graduation ceremonies, in Edinburgh and overseas.
Edinburgh graduation ceremonies
Nicola Benedetti, Musician, was awarded a Doctorate of Letters in recognition of her outstanding contribution to music in Scotland and internationally.
Professor Ing. Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, Chairman and CEO of Finmeccanica, will be awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his distinguished career and outstanding contribution to the economic development and success of European high technology manufacturing.
Mr Roy Jobson, retired Director of Education and Children and Families, City of Edinburgh Council, was awarded a Doctorate of Science in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of education in Scotland.
Mr Peter Liddell Wilson, Secretary of Heriot-Watt University, was awarded a Doctorate of the University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development and to the success of Heriot-Watt University through his twenty year period of service as Secretary of the University
Mrs Joy Janet Wilson, committed University supporter and wife of Peter Wilson, was awarded a Doctorate of the University in recognition of her outstanding personal contribution, over a period of twenty years, to the community and ceremonial life of Heriot-Watt University, and for her gracious service as an ambassador for the University both at home and overseas.
Mr Mitrajeet D Maraye FCCA, Chairman of the Glamis Business School, Mauritius, was awarded a Doctorate of Letters in recognition of his distinguished business career, his contribution to the development of international business education and his esteemed service as an ambassador for Heriot-Watt University internationally.
Dubai graduation ceremony
Mr Mohammed Al Barwani, Chairman MB holding Company, will be awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his distinguished career and his outstanding entrepreneurial contribution to the success of the international oil and gas industry. (This ceremony takes place on 24 November at 7.00pm)
Hong Kong graduation ceremony
Mr Bi Chen, Executive Vice-President and General Manager CNOOC Ltd, will be awarded a Doctorate of Engineering in recognition of his distinguished career and leadership in the oil and gas industry and for his excellent contribution to higher education in the field of petroleum engineering. At an earlier graduation ceremony in Moscow, Dame Anne Fyfe Pringle DCMG, British Ambassador to the Russian Federation, was awarded a Doctorate of the University in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the British diplomatic service and international UK education in Russia.
