Staff and students joined members of the local community at the Edinburgh campus as the evening began with a stunning torchlight parade along the main avenue, led by the University Pipe Band.

Earlier the hWU-TRASH-CLANG band entertained the crowds, with many taking photographs under the newly erected Christmas tree.

Professor Steve Chapman, Principal and Vice-Chancellor said: "The fireworks finale was a fantastic way to celebrate forty years of Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh Campus. It was wonderful to see so many staff, students and our friends from the local community come out and enjoy an evening of spectacular entertainment. I certainly enjoyed it and hope that all who attended did too.

"I would like to extend my thanks to all of those colleagues who through their hard work and support made it all possible."
