Festive Community Scholarship Award
A RM5,000 tuition fee scholarship* will be granted to students who submit their application and complete the first semester tuition fee payment by 31st March 2026 for the July and September 2026 intakes
Steps to Apply
- Apply for the scholarship here
- Submit an application to study with us and upload all required documents
- Receive an unconditional or conditional offer letter from the University.
- Scholarship awards are granted on a first-come first-served basis and are subject to the University’s approval.
- Each recipient is entitled to only ONE form of financial abatement at any given time, including sponsorship or discounts offered by other institutions or bodies. Where multiple abatements apply, the highest-value award will be applied automatically.
- The Scholarships will be deducted in first year of study, i.e Semester 2 as a one-off deduction.
Eligibility and Conditions
- This award applies to students who have received either a conditional or unconditional offer letter from the university.
- Students holding a conditional offer letter must submit all outstanding documents and meet all academic and entry requirements to obtain an unconditional offer letter before the start of the academic year.
- If a student fails to meet the conditions of the offer and the application is subsequently rejected, the student’s admission and any associated abatements be voided. Any tuition fee already paid will be refunded to the student.
- For the avoidance of doubt, once an unconditional offer letter has been issued, the advance payment made is non-refundable.
- The deadline to qualify for the scholarship award is 31st March 2026.

Foundation Excellence Award
Foundation students from July and September 2025 and January, April and May 2026 intakes who have achieved Grade A (i.e. 70% average score and above) in Heriot-Watt University Malaysia's Foundation Programme will be awarded a RM 15,000 scholarship per year for the entire duration of their undergraduate study, subject to them achieving Grade A (i.e., 70% average score and above) in each academic year and the entire duration of study, failing which, the scholarship will be revoked with immediate effect and there shall be no continuation nor reinstatement thereafter.
High Achiever's Scholarship for Foundation Programme
We offer a range of scholarships to high achievers based on the tier below for our Foundation programmes.

Students are required to maintain 70% average (Grade A) every academic year.
PhD Scholarships
Heriot-Watt University Malaysia is pleased to offer two exciting PhD scholarship opportunities:
Industry Collaborative PhD Scholarship
This scholarship offers a 50% matching discount on tuition fees for new PhD enrolments in Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) who have secured the remaining fees through sponsorship from their current employers.
Eligibility:
To qualify for this fee discount, candidate must provide:
- A letter of support from their employer confirming sponsorship for 50% of the tuition fees, living expenses, and other related costs.
- Evidence of meeting the entry requirements for the PhD programme.
- Support from a potential research supervisory team at Heriot-Watt.
Key Information:
- The University will offer a 50% tuition fee waiver from Year 1 to Year 3 only.
- Candidate is responsible for the remaining tuition fees or any thesis pending fees if their studies extend into Year 4.
- Candidates will be required to contribute up to 6 hours per week for teaching activities, up to a total of 36 hours per semester (i.e., 108 hours per academic year).
- Completion of a teaching induction is mandatory before undertaking any teaching assignments.
PhD High Achiever’s Scholarship
This scholarship offers a 50% tuition fee discount for PhD programmes at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM). It is available to full-time new enrolments who are graduates of Heriot-Watt University (HWU) with an undergraduate first-class honour’s degree or a postgraduate degree with distinction, or the equivalent, from any HWU campus.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for this fee discount, candidate must meet all the following criteria:
- Graduate of Heriot-Watt University from any HWU campus.
- Have obtained a first-class undergraduate degree, postgraduate distinction, or equivalent.
- Enrol as a full-time student for the entire duration of the programme.
Key Information:
- The University will offer a 50% tuition fee waiver from Year 1 to Year 3 only.
- Candidate must pass the major progression review in Year 1 and the minor progression review in Year 2.
- Candidate is responsible for any remaining fees or thesis pending costs if their studies extend into Year 4.
- Candidate is also responsible for their own living costs.
- This fee waiver is applicable for three intakes per academic year.
- Candidates may be required to contribute up to 6 hours per week towards teaching, school, and/or research activities, up to a total of 36 hours per semester (i.e., 108 hours per academic year).
- Completion of a teaching induction is mandatory before undertaking any teaching assignments.
Additional Information:
- There is no limit or quota for either scholarship.
- Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Scholarship Terms and Conditions
- All Bursary/Scholarship/Discount/Waiver hereinafter referred to as "Abatement" offered by Heriot-Watt University Malaysia are subject to the terms and conditions.
- The recipients are entitled to only ONE type of abatement at any one-time including sponsorship from other institutions / bodies. The one with the highest quantum will automatically apply.
- The abatements are offered on first-come-first-serve basis.
- The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student for the entire length of the programme that the recipient registered for at the time the abatement was awarded, register for all courses according to the Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (“University”) schedule, pass each registered course at the first attempt and complete the programme within the original time frame as stated in the offer letter and adhere to the terms and conditions as set out herein.
- The abatement will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee waiver only. “Tuition fee” does not cover any other charges or fees such as registration fee, international student fees, re-sitting of examination fee, extension of studies fee and ancillary items required as part of the studies, including but not limited to books, graduation ceremony, final award/certificate, accommodation, student visa processing, sports, and living and other related costs, which shall be borne by the recipient.
- The value of the abatement granted will be deducted against the full tuition fees payable on a semester-by-semester basis.
- The abatement is not exchangeable for cash or other alternatives or transferable to other intake, programme or campuses.
- The recipient is required to comply with all the University terms and conditions of admittance, regulations and policies.
- The University reserves the right to involve recipients in interviews, advertisements, photography or other publicity activities for the purpose of promoting the University or any other purpose deemed fit by the University. The recipient assigns to the University any intellectual property or other rights that are created as part of this role. The abatement recipient shall also provide the necessary consent to the University to use the personal data of the recipient for the activities as stated herein. “Personal data” shall be as defined in the Malaysia Personal Data Protection Act 2010, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK Data Protection Act 2018, the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (General Data Protection Regulation) (EU GDPR) in so far as it remains applicable, and any other corresponding or equivalent national laws or regulations on in force and applicable.
- The University reserves the absolute discretion and right to make any amendments to the terms and conditions of the abatement as reflected herein including but not limited to the structure of the abatement award, and the recipients shall be bound by the updated terms and conditions which is available on the University’s website.
- The recipient for High Achiever Scholarship, Foundation Excellence Award shall be a student ambassador for the University and contributing a minimum of ten (10) ambassador hours in the first year of studies.
- Unless otherwise stated, recipients for High Achiever Scholarship, Foundation Excellence Award must achieve a minimum of Grade A (i.e., 70% average score) at first attempt in the academic year and the entire duration of study, failing which, the abatement will be revoked with immediate effect and there shall be no continuation nor reinstatement thereafter.
- The University reserves the right to revoke the abatement offered or awarded to recipients at their absolute discretion at any time. This includes when recipient discontinue their studies (withdrawal from programme) for any reason whatsoever or if, recipients are found guilty of academic or disciplinary misconduct, or if the recipients fail to fulfil the requirements in the Student Ambassador Programme (including ambassador hours) stipulated in Paragraph 11 above.
- The abatement is awarded at point of entry to a foundation or undergraduate or postgraduate programme, whichever applicable. Point of entry refers to Semester 1 of a foundation programme or Semester 1 in Year 1 of an undergraduate or postgraduate programme. For recipients who enrol with advance entry will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- Scholarships granted at entry based on predicted/forecast examination results will be reviewed on receipt of official examination results with one of the following outcomes:
- if the official examination results are equivalent to the predicted results, the awarded scholarship will remain.
- if the official examination results are not equivalent to the predicted results, the scholarship entitlement will be revised based on official examination results as follows:

- Should the official examination results be improved, the scholarship amount may be revised upwards. A credit will be granted for the difference between the original scholarship value and the new scholarship value awarded.
- Should the official examination results fall below the requirements of awarded scholarship, the University will revoke or revise the value of the awarded scholarship from the second semester onwards.

- In any event of dispute relating to the abatement, any decisions made by the University are final, and there will be no avenues, processes or procedures for appeal.
- As for the fee waiver, should a recipient withdraw their application and request a refund, it is important to note that the waiver, once applied, is non-refundable. Below is an excerpt from the refund policy for reference
Refund Policy- The Registration Fee and Visa Application Fee are not refundable under any circumstances.
- Subject to sub paragraph (a), if a student provides notice more than 2 weeks before the commencement of the semester, 100% of the tuition fees paid may be refundable.
- Subject to sub paragraph (a), if a student provides notice within 2 weeks before the commencement of the semester, 50% of the tuition fees paid may be refundable.
- Subject to sub paragraph (a), if a student provides notice within 2 weeks after the commencement of the semester, 50% of the tuition fees paid may be refundable.
- No fees are refundable 2 weeks after the commencement of the semester.
- Regardless of any provisions stated herein, the granting of the abatement is solely at the discretion of the University.
